UT Southwestern Medical Center receives $500,000 donation from SB International executives
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center announced, at a reception held at the T. Boone Pickens Biomedical Building on May 19, 2014, that SB International executives, and Dallas philanthropists, Satish Gupta and Yasmin Gupta donated $500,000 to support diabetes research at UT Southwestern Medical Center under the direction of Dr. Abhimanyu Garg, Chief of the Division of Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases. The gift will support Dr. Garg’s novel genetic research on type 2 diabetes in Asian Indians; a demographic group that is predisposed to early onset of the disease for reasons unknown. A study of up to 300 patients in the U.S. will be initiated, aimed at pinpointing the underlying basis for increased diabetes prevalence in this group.
